Bishop’s Visit and Confirmations in Pittsburgh

The Institute’s apostolate in Pittsburgh was blessed with a visit from His Excellency, the Most Reverend David A. Zubik, Bishop of Pittsburgh, on Laetare Sunday, March 31, 2019. This was the first pastoral visit by the Bishop to the parish since His Excellency entrusted its care to the Institute in October, 2018.

Prior to the Liturgy, Bishop Zubik spoke with the Confirmation candidates at length, offering insightful instruction and spiritual encouragement to them on this important occasion. His Excellency then proceeded to confer the Sacrament of Confirmation on 24 young men and women from the parish. The Confirmation ceremony and sermon by Bishop Zubik were followed by a Solemn High Mass offered by Canon Matthew Talarico, Provincial Superior of the Institute of Christ the King in the USA, assisted by Canon William Avis (pastor) and Canon John O’Connor (associate pastor), who served as Deacon and Subdeacon, with Bishop Zubik assisting in choir.

Holy Mass was followed by a festive reception, at which the newly confirmed and the numerous parishioners present offered His Excellency a gift and a spiritual bouquet as a token of gratitude and filial love. On behalf of the Institute’s Canons serving in Pittsburgh, Canon Talarico thanked Bishop Zubik for his spiritual paternity and leadership, and for having invited the Institute to serve in the Diocese of Pittsburgh. The parish’s pastor emeritus, Father James Dolan, was present at the reception as well.

In summer, the personal parish will be moving to another church building campus which is to be its permanent home under the care of the Institute’s clergy.
