Confirmations at St. Francis de Sales Oratory in St. Louis

Come Holy Spirit, Come! On Saturday November 17, 2018, Archbishop Robert J. Carlson confirmed thirty-four teenagers and adults at St. Francis de Sales Oratory in St. Louis, Missouri. In his sermon, he addressed those who were to be confirmed that they were very soon to become Soldiers of Christ and that it is indeed a significant responsibility. Given the immense challenges that there are in society today, these young men and women need to implore the help of the Holy Ghost, prepare to defend their faith, nurture their spiritual lives and practice the virtues as opposed to the vices of the world. May God bless all of these newly Confirmed and may the Holy Ghost guide them with the seven gifts bestowed upon them this day.

Following the Confirmations, Canon Matthew Talarico, the Institute's Provincial Superior of the United States, celebrated Holy Mass assisted by Canon Pierre Dumain as deacon and Canon Luke Zignego as sub-deacon. With the music of Palestrina's Missa Brevis, the glorious sacrifice of the Mass was a prayerful celebration for all in attendance.

After the Mass, there was a reception prepared in the church hall for the newly Confirmed, their families, sponsors and guests. Canon Talarico thanked Archbishop Carlson for his support of the work at the Oratory in St. Louis and assured him of our prayers. The Archbishop addressed the faithful, thanked especially Canon Michael Wiener, rector of the Oratory, and all of the well-trained altar boys for their diligent service during the Mass. His Grace blessed the meal and greeted the faithful.

It was a lovely day celebrated by many and we are truly grateful to God for the Sacrament of Confirmation that was bestowed on these thirty-four people who are now Soldiers of Christ: imploring the Holy Ghost to come and help guide them through their lives. Come Holy Spirit, Come!
