Mission San Rafael Arcángel
On the feast of St. Raphael, October 24, 2009, faithful from the Oakland and Santa Clara Apostolates, as well as from faithful from the Traditional Latin Mass community of Marin, joined Canon Moreau for a High Mass at Mission San Rafael Arcángel in San Rafael, California. Music, including the "Mission Mass," written by Padre Narisco Duran in the early 1800s, was provided by the choirs of the Oratory of Our Mother of Perpetual Help and the Thomas More School in San Jose. The faithful of the TLM community of Marin generously provided a wonderful picnic lunch following the Mass. These events were co-sponsored by the Pueri Mariae Catholic Boys' Group--Catholic Boy Scout Troup 316/Cub Scout Pack 316 and the Virgo Virginum Young Ladies' Sodality--All-Female Venturing Crew 316.
Founded in 1817, the Mission was established as a hospital to assist Mission San Francisco de Asís (Dolores) in San Francisco. The current chapel is a rebuilding of the original and was dedicated in 1949.
