As soon as it was safe to do so, Canon Talarico and Canon Stein, two of three priests stationed at the Shrine, retrieved the sacred liturgical items from the burnt church.

The Infant King statue was still standing atop the High Altar when the firefighters found it.
Good news: in the debris left by the fire, a firefighter found the missing arm of the Infant King statue.
That is the statement the Rev. Canon Matthew Talarico, Provincial Superior of the US Province of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest, would like to pass on to the many friends, benefactors, and residents of the city of Chicago regarding the October 7th fire that has devastated for a second time the historic church, now known as the Shrine of Christ the King Sovereign Priest, on 64th and Woodlawn.
From the 14th to the 17th of August, 2015, the Institute of Christ the King held its fifth annual Sursum Corda young adult retreat.
At the end of August, the Canons and affiliate priests of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest gathered at the Motherhouse and International Seminary of St. Philip Neri for the annual general Chapter.
“They will take it all back with them to the Masses they attend,” said Mr. Nicholas Botkins, referring to the music experience and skills the campers acquired from this summer’s Choir Camp.
During the second week of July, over one hundred young men descended upon the picturesque fields and forests of rural northern Wisconsin for the St. Michael’s Patrol youth camp under the direction of the priests and clergy of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest.
The 3rd Annual St. Michael’s Patrol Camp for Boys in California took place from Aug. 5 to Aug. 8 near the city of Alamo situated in the rolling hills surrounding the San Francisco Bay Area.
