Confirmations & Pontifical Low Mass in Tucson

Tucson Latin Mass Confirmations

On Saturday, November 6 His Excellency, the Most Reverend Gerald F. Kicanas, Bishop of Tucson, Arizona, conferred the Sacrament of Confirmation in the Extraordinary Form at Holy Family church to thirteen candidates from St. Gianna Oratory. The Most Reverend Bishop then offered a Pontifical Low Mass in the Extraordinary Form, for which the rector of St. Gianna, Canon Richard von Menshengen, and regularly assisting priest, Father David Reinders, served as chaplains. The Oratory choir sang many Latin motets for both the Rite of Confirmation and the Pontifical Mass. In honor of Mary Immaculate on the First Saturday and in loving memory of the late Father Richard J. Rego, S.T.L., the beautiful statue which had belonged to the beloved Founder of the former St. Gianna Latin Mass Community in Tucson was placed in the sanctuary and surrounded by dozens of roses.

At the following reception which was offered in honor of Bishop Kicanas, Canon von Menshengen thanked His Excellency for his fatherly care and support of St. Gianna Oratory.

Bishop Kicanas stated his contentment at the noticeably good development which has taken place since August 6 when the Institute of Christ the King was entrusted with the administration of Holy Family Parish, which will soon be celebrating its centennial year. His Excellency received a spiritual bouquet from the newly-confirmed, as well as a special gift from the Oratory in gratitude for his generosity. A decorated cake, bearing the Most Reverend Bishop's coat of arms, was presented to him and enjoyed by the many who participated in this festive reception.
