First Pontifical High Mass at the Shrine

Despite the inclement Chicago winter, hundreds of faithful attended a Pontifical High Mass celebrated at the Shrine of Christ the King by His Excellency, the Most Reverend Joseph N. Perry, auxiliary bishop in Chicago, on Sunday, January 11.

Participants of the Gregorian Chant Workshop for the Serious Student beautifully sang the Gregorian Mass propers, and members of Chicago Chorale sang Victoria's Missa Magnum Mysterium as well as several polyphonic motets. This was the first Pontifical High Mass celebrated at the Shrine since it was reopened in late December 2007, when His Eminence Francis Cardinal George crowned the four hundred-year-old statue of the Infant King which is enshrined above the high altar.
