On Sunday, March 8, 2020, Detroit Archbishop Allen H. Vigneron announced that he has granted the title of Archdiocesan Shrine to St. Joseph Oratory, in recognition of the parish’s service as a popular place of pilgrimage and its abundant availability of the sacraments.

2019 St. Joseph Day of Prayer in Detroit

The annual St. Joseph Day of Prayer at St. Joseph Oratory in Detroit was a powerful celebration of St. Joseph as the Patron of the Universal Church and of St. Joseph Oratory. An inaugural Solemn Preparatory Novena preceded St. Joseph Day, with an additional daily Mass, themed homily, and Novena Prayers at the side altar of St. Joseph beginning on March 11. The homilies given by the Canons of the Oratory and visiting clergy focused on various aspects of the vocation of St. Joseph, ranging from his Fatherhood to his role as Patron of a Happy Death.

On the Feast of Christ the King, Sunday, October 28, St. Joseph Oratory gratefully welcomed His Grace, the Most Reverend Archbishop Allen H. Vigneron, for the conferral of the Sacrament of Confirmation on youth and adults. The Archbishop beautifully reminded the Confirmandi that they are soldiers of Christ, on a mission to be about the work of Jesus Christ.

St. Joseph Oktoberfest on Sunday, September 23, 2018, was an exciting and joyful cultural festival at St. Joseph Oratory in Detroit.  Inside the church was a Solemn High Orchestral Mass at 11:00 am, two church tours, a Classical Concert, and Vespers.  The festivities outside in beautiful weather ran from 12:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

Ite ad Joseph! At St. Joseph Oratory in Detroit, the annual St. Joseph Day of Prayer began at 7:00 a.m. as faithful gathered in the church for Lauds. The parish, which sees many visitors on a daily basis, became a special place of pilgrimage for over 1,000 souls (on a Monday!) throughout the day in celebration of the feast of St. Joseph, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The feast of Corpus Christi on Thursday, June 15, 2017, marked the first visit to Detroit of Msgr. Gilles Wach, Founder & Prior General of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest. A Solemn High Mass was offered by Msgr. Wach, with Canon Michael Stein as deacon and Canon Edward Gardner, a native son of Detroit, as subdeacon.

StJoseph Oratory in Detroit celebrated its patronal feast day on Monday, March 20, the Solemnity of StJoseph, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary, with a daylong StJoseph Day of Prayer.  It was a grace-filled occasion not only for clergy and parishioners of the Oratory, but also for visiting clergy, religious, seminarians, and faithful from around the Archdiocese of Detroit and beyond, including pilgrims from other Institute apostolates.
