Congratulations to Cardinal-Designate Raymond L. Burke

Cardinal Burke

With profound gratitude to the Most Holy Trinity, to Christ Our King, and His Immaculate Mother, the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest rejoices in the news that His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI will name the Most Reverend Raymond Leo Burke to the College of Cardinals at the Consistory to be held on November 20, 2010.

We are grateful for the example of fidelity and dedication in Archbishop Burke's service to the Church, currently as Prefect of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura, as Archbishop Emeritus of St. Louis, as former Bishop of La Crosse, Wisconsin, and most of all, as a priest of the Roman Catholic Church. Over the past decade, the Archbishop has ordained many priests of the Institute, and we deeply cherish his friendship and fatherly care.

At the General Chapter of the Institute this past September, Archbishop Burke spoke lovingly of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the priesthood. He asked for our prayers, and now we wish to assure him that, from Wisconsin to Missouri, from the Rome of the West to the Eternal City, all those throughout the years who have been baptized, confirmed, ordained — all who have received Christ in His Sacraments at the hands of this holy bishop are praying to Our Lord to keep him close to His Most Sacred Heart and to give him strength and continued perseverance.

We wish as well to express our filial gratitude to His Holiness for this great gift to the Universal Church, and we assure him of our fervent prayers at every Mass celebrated by the canons of the Institute.
