PAINT AND PLASTERING CREWS...MAKING SPEEDY PROGRESS

The photo below is a view of the entire length of the church from front to back from atop the plywood platform at the very peak of scaffolding just below the ceiling. It shows the painting that is being done to the coffered ceiling sections. The painters are doing a good job fixing cracks in the plaster and applying the architect's paint selections and doing it expeditiously. The word from the paint contractor is that they expect to be finished with their work much sooner than previously expected.

CEILING PAINT COLOR IS A SOFT CREME...

Each of the coffered sections of the ceiling is being painted in a light beige with a white accent on the moldings. The effect is very soothing and gives warmth and brightness to the decoration of the nave of the church.

In the photo below, you can see some of the colors that are being considered for the back wall (east side entrance wall). Those decisions will be made shortly.

GOLD-LEAFING IS DEMONSTRATED ON THIS CAPITAL IN THE CEILING ABOVE THE SANCTUARY.

All the tops of the pillars will be gold leafed using this motif. The gold leafing is a meticulous process and will give the church a very rich accent.

JOE FARRIS...INSPECTING THE WORK

As the painting proceeds, the building committee is on hand, making sure that everything is proceeding according to plan.

IN OTHER PROGRESS...PIGEONS BEWARE!

These plastic combs with very sharp spikes will be installed on all exterior ledges where pigeons might be likely to want to take a break. These should help in making sure that visitors to the church don't get caught with any droppings.

NO NEED TO SHOW A PICTURE OF IT...BUT A TEMPORARY RESTROOM HAS BEEN INSTALLED ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE SANCTUARY...OPPOSITE THE SACRISTY.

This facility is primarily for the workers, since the sacristy restroom is being renovated and is not in service right now. There is some talk of leaving the fixtures in this room for the use of the altar boys after the church reopens. This will be finalized as time goes on.

SACRISTY RESTROOM...DEMOLITION DONE. RESTORATION BEGUN.

The bathroom in the sacristy has been completely gutted and the re-plumbing is now being done. Soon the fixtures, tiling and repainting will be started.

SIDE ALTAR PLASTER WORK IS UNDERWAY

The photo below shows how the old plaster has been removed from the original lathe by our tireless core of volunteers. The painting contractor will soon be replastering and then painting this area preparing for the eventual assembly of the beautiful marble altar obtained from the Boston, MA archdiocese.
