Restoration Progress

"Behold the dwelling place of God with men . . . Behold, I make all things new." Years of dedication, hard work and prayers led many to the doors of  Old Saint Patrick Oratory.  The following pictures were taken during the Consecration.   You may read Bishop Finn's sermon.

The installation of the hardwood flooring is complete.   The week of  September 29th the floors will be stained and the  following week will be "quiet" as the floors need a full week to cure.

A choir loft view of the hardwood floors, installed and ready for the next steps.   After the floors have cured, the first week in Octboer, the week of October 13th will see work begin again as the pews are installed, followed by the communion rail and the confessionals.  The same week , the Stations of the Cross, the statues, the partition wall under the choir loft and cabinets for the sacristies will be installed and the sanctuary lamp will be hung.  The fixtures for the restrooms will be installed and the memorial plaque placed on the wall in the back of the Oratory.  There is still much to be done as everyone prepares for the Consecration of Old Saint Patrick Oratory on October 25, 2008

Work on the wainscotting is underway and will soon be complete.

All the blue paint will soon be covered by the beautiful wainscotting.

Finally all the scaffolding that has dominated the spaces of the Oratory for many months is completely gone. No regrets though. Last minute work on the painting of the pillars is proceeding and soon work on the wainscoting around the perimeter of the church and the laying of the oak flooring will begin.

The gold leafing on the final pillars is almost finished. Northeast Painting Company, the painting contractor is in the process of finishing the tedious job of applying gold leaf on the remaining surfaces to be completed. Also, the final coats of paint on the pillars will be done shortly.

The floor is covered with large stacks of the oak flooring panels. Once the wainscoting in complete, the flooring can be laid, stained, and sealed.

Vestibule restroom framing is proceeding. Also, the church office and sacristy has now been sheet-rocked. The next steps there will be hanging of the suspended ceiling grid and painting.
