2018 St. Joseph Oktoberfest in Detroit

St. Joseph Oktoberfest on Sunday, September 23, 2018, was an exciting and joyful cultural festival at St. Joseph Oratory in Detroit.  Inside the church was a Solemn High Orchestral Mass at 11:00 am, two church tours, a Classical Concert, and Vespers.  The festivities outside in beautiful weather ran from 12:30 pm to 8:30 pm.  Entertainment under the big tent included the Bavarian band Siasswasser Tanzlmusi, Bavarian dancers G.T.E.V. Edelweiss Detroit, the second annual Steinholding Contest and presentation of the Steinly Cup by Canon Michael Stein to the winners of the Women's and Men's Divisions, Notre Dame Preparatory Jazz Band, and Billy & Fast Forward Entertainment.  Visitors also enjoyed a full German dinner and grill station, Bavarian beer and a local Oktoberfest beer, fowling and corn hole, children's activities and face painting, Silent Auction, Raffle, Attic Treasures, German clothing, parish gifts including etched steeple slate, and local vendors.  It was wonderful to share this time of prayer and cultural recreation with so many people of all ages, including many first-time visitors, neighbors, long-time supporters, and seminarians, priests, and religious.  St. Joseph Oratory is grateful to all the sponsors and volunteers who made the Oktoberfest possible and contributed to the Historic Renewal of the Oratory campus.  Deo gratias!
