Dear Faithful,
I wish you all a blessed feast of St. Joseph, Protector of the Universal Church and Patron of our beloved diocese of La Crosse. This day greets us with a momentous announcement. His Holiness Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of His Excellency, the Most Reverend William P. Callahan, who has served faithfully as Bishop of La Crosse since 2010. It is with sadness that we bid His Excellency farewell after his years of fatherly care for the diocese and longstanding support of St. Mary's Oratory. We thank him for his service and assure him of our continued prayers.
At the same time, we welcome the news that His Holiness has appointed His Excellency, the Most Reverend Gerard W. Battersby, as 11th Bishop of the Diocese of La Crosse. Bishop Battersby currently serves as Auxiliary Bishop in the Archdiocese of Detroit, where the Institute of Christ the King has joyfully served since 2016. We offer Bishop Battersby our sincere congratulations on his appointment and our prayers during this time of transition, looking forward to welcoming him here in the Diocese of La Crosse as our new shepherd.
Sincerely Yours in Christ the King,
Canon Aaron B. Huberfeld
Rector
